The SDC is for sale! Join us for a protest at the The SDC is for sale! Join us for a protest at the entrance of SDC Campus at intersection of Arnold Drive and Harney. June 6th is the day That the California Department of General Services has invited interested developers to tour the SDC (1:00 - 5:00pm). Learn more at eldridgeforall.org.

Here are the demands from Eldridge for All:
1.    Keep our lands in public hands. Transfer SDC open space to State and/or Regional Parks now!
2.    Regain public trust by honoring promises and respecting the local community’s wishes to have a real say in the process.
3.    Schedule a community meeting - no more ZOOM - between the local public, stakeholders, State and County officials. It’s high time we gather in person to discuss the particulars.
4.    Slow the process down. Redevelopment of the SDC is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We need to get this right!

Check out these gorgeous images of Lafferty Ranch, Check out these gorgeous images of Lafferty Ranch, which sits atop Sonoma Mountain’s upper west slope, taken by Scott Hess. From the middle of Petaluma, if you look directly up E. Washington Street, you’re looking at Lafferty Ranch. Not many people have had the privilege to experience it firsthand, however, it is slowly becoming more accessible to the public.

The 270-acre Lafferty ranch contains the largest riparian oak woodland on the Petaluma side of the mountain and encompasses most of the headwaters of Adobe Creek. With this reliable source of water, Lafferty is a wildlife oasis in summer and fall. A large part of the property is also grassland, and a marsh that is home to threatened red-legged frogs.

The city of Petaluma obtained the parcel in 1959, but its efforts to make Lafferty into a public park have run into many obstacles. You can learn about the history, and legal battles, surrounding this property from the Friends of Lafferty Park at www.laffertyranch.org/bkgrnd.htm

Last weekend, @landpaths hosted 2022’s first guided hike in collaboration with @thecityofpetaluma and Friends of Lafferty. There will be future hikes, as well as docent trainings, but details have not yet been released. If you are interested in keeping up to date about Lafferty and all things Sonoma Mountain, sign up for our newsletter by clicking the link in our bio @sonoma_mountain or visiting our website at www.sonomamountain.org. Also, keep an eye on Landpath’s event page.
